How can we help?

Find answers below or open a support ticket and we'll get back to you within 24 hours.

Getting Started

  • How do I install Connect for Fastmail?

Visit the Chrome Web Store and click "Add to Chrome." Once installed, the extension automatically activates when you open Fastmail. Office attachments will show an inline preview option.

  • How do I start my free trial?

Your 30-day free trial starts automatically when you install the extension. No credit card is required. You'll see a trial status indicator in the extension popup.

  • How do I log in to the extension?

Click the Connect for Fastmail icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the popup. Enter your email and password, then click "Log In." If you don't have an account yet, click "Create account" to sign up. Your plan and features activate automatically after login.

Document Previews

  • Which file types are supported?

Connect for Fastmail supports .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, and .rtf files. PDF previews are handled natively by Fastmail.

  • Why isn't my document loading?

Check that the file is a supported format. Very large files (over 25 MB) may take longer to render. If the issue persists, try refreshing Fastmail or disabling other extensions temporarily. You can always download the original attachment as a fallback.

  • Is my document data stored?

No. Documents are processed ephemerally for rendering and are never stored permanently. Preview sessions are discarded after the window is closed or within 24 hours. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Billing & Account

  • How do I manage my subscription?

Visit your Account page to view your plan, update payment methods, or cancel your subscription.

  • How do I cancel?

You can cancel anytime from your Account page. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. No partial refunds are issued after 14 days.

  • How do I get a refund?

We offer a full refund within the first 14 days of any paid subscription. Contact us via the support ticket form below and we'll process it promptly.

  • I can't log in to the extension

Use the same email and password you created during signup or checkout. If you forgot your password, click "Forgot password?" in the extension popup or visit your Account page to reset it. If you still need help, open a support ticket below.

Cloud Storage

  • How do I save attachments to cloud storage?

With the Advanced or AI Pro plan, you can save email attachments directly to Google Drive, Dropbox, S3-compatible storage (AWS, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, MinIO), or NextCloud. Click the download button on any supported attachment and choose your cloud provider from the menu.

  • How do I connect a cloud storage provider?

Go to your Account Settings → Cloud Storage. For Google Drive and Dropbox, click "Connect" and authorize access. For S3 or NextCloud, enter your credentials — they are encrypted at rest and never stored in plain text.

  • Where are my files saved?

Files are saved to a Fastmail Downloads folder by default. For Google Drive, the folder is created automatically in your Drive root. For Dropbox, files go to /Fastmail Downloads/. For S3, they go to the bucket and path prefix you configured. For NextCloud, the folder is created automatically via WebDAV.

  • Setting up S3-compatible storage

You'll need: an endpoint URL (e.g. https://account-id.r2.cloudflarestorage.com), a bucket name, region (use auto for Cloudflare R2), and an access key ID and secret access key from your provider. The URL prefix https:// is added automatically if omitted.

  • Setting up NextCloud

You'll need your NextCloud server URL (e.g. cloud.example.com), your username, and an app password (generate one in NextCloud → Settings → Security → App passwords). The upload path defaults to /Fastmail Downloads/ and is created automatically.

  • Are my cloud storage credentials secure?

Yes. All credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage. They are only decrypted server-side at the moment of upload and are never exposed to the browser extension. OAuth tokens (Google Drive, Dropbox) are refreshed automatically and stored encrypted.

Troubleshooting

  • The extension isn't appearing in Fastmail

Make sure the extension is enabled in chrome://extensions. Try refreshing Fastmail. If you're using multiple profiles, ensure the extension is installed in the correct Chrome profile.

  • Previews stopped working after a Fastmail update

Fastmail occasionally updates their UI. We monitor for changes and release updates quickly. Make sure your extension is set to auto-update. If the issue persists for more than a day, open a support ticket.

  • The extension conflicts with another extension

Try disabling other Fastmail-related extensions one at a time to identify the conflict. If you find a specific conflict, let us know via a support ticket so we can investigate.
